Part of the tracklist on DJ Snake’s latest album Nomad, the release dives into a fictional, high-energy take on Cairo with a cinematic, humorous feel
Cairo, Egypt - June 4, 2026 - Cairo Express’ arrives as one of the most distinctive tracks on DJ Snake’s new hit album ‘Nomad’, released in late 2025. The 17-track album has gained widespread acclaim for its genre-defying sound, culturally rich storytelling, and reflection of the artist’s multicultural upbringing. Built on a deep bassline and a melodic thread inspired by the energy of Cairo’s street culture, the track extends into a music video that leans into chaos, humor, and fiction, placing DJ Snake at the center of a surreal narrative set in the city.
The music video follows a fictional storyline in which DJ Snake is searching for a fourth member for a made-up band, staging a chaotic street talent show in Cairo. Real local talents, not actors, take part, competing in unpredictable moments that blur the line between performance and reality.
‘Cairo Express’ draws from Mahraganat, the widely popular Egyptian genre rooted in the working-class neighborhoods of Cairo, channeling its rawness and unpredictability into both the track and its visuals. Mixing electronic dance music, hip-hop, and traditional folk elements, Mahraganat is fast-paced, auto-tune-heavy, and unapologetically raw, known for lyrics that speak to daily life, social tension, humor, and rebellion. The genre’s name literally means “festivals,” and that spirit carries directly into the visuals of DJ Snake’s latest music video.
DJ Snake comments on the music video:
“There's so much happening in the MENA region right now; Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the rhythm, the flow, the energy, it’s all so rich. I’ve been spending time there working with local artists. We’re cooking together, not trying to make it sound Western. They have their own wave, and it’s beautiful. Cairo Express is one of those tracks that captures that energy, very cultural, very intense, pure chaos in the best way.”
Directed by CHNDY (@chndy_), one of the MENA region’s exciting creatives, in collaboration with creative production companies BIRTH and 2Horloges, the ‘Cairo Express’ music video embraces a bold, unfiltered creative direction. Reflecting DJ Snake’s ongoing approach to working with emerging talent, the project gives space for a more instinctive and experimental process to unfold, pushing into exaggerated, almost cartoon-like territory where every frame feels dynamic, chaotic, and designed to stand on its own.
‘Cairo Express’ is a stunning part of ‘Nomad’, an album that moves fluidly across genres - from reggaeton and R&B to Jersey house, EDM, and pop - having earned worldwide acclaim for its visual energy and emotional depth, and praised as a cultural statement that reflects DJ Snake’s evolution as an artist. The album debuted at Number 3 on Spotify’s Top Album Debut Global chart, reinforcing his lasting impact, and arrived alongside his recognition as one of GQ’s Men of the Year, a nod to his enduring influence on the global stage.
With ‘Nomad’, DJ Snake opens a new chapter: one that pushes deeper into cultural storytelling while still carrying the energy that made his music a staple in clubs worldwide. ‘Cairo Express’ is the latest stop on that journey, and one of its most radiant.
